ScandiNAOS AB provides methanol-diesel Dual fuel kit for MAN 24L V12 marine engine

ScandiNAOS AB* has been assigned by Tonissi Marine, an Italian distributor of MAN marine high-speed engines, to develop a dual fuel kit for the MAN 24L V12 engines. This collaboration aims to support advanced dual-fuel applications in the superyacht market and first two methanol dual-fuel main propulsion engines are scheduled to be delivered in 2026.

The dual fuel kit consists of methanol fuel engine control units (ECUs), modified air inlet manifolds, with methanol port fuel injectors and the double walled fuel rail. After conversion with the dual-fuel kit, 60-70% of diesel can be replaced by methanol, enabling a significant carbon footprint reduction.

With over a decade pushing the development of sustainable shipping and introduction of methanol as a marine fuel, ScandiNAOS has acquired a unique competence for methanol system and methanol engine design. With this milestone, the MAN engine joins a growing portfolio of engine platforms for which ScandiNAOS successfully developed dual-fuel kits. While dual-fuel solutions provide flexibility during the industry’s transition phase, fully methanol-powered engines offered by our sister company, Enmar Engines, help close the technology gap toward complete methanol propulsion in the marine sector.
